DESCRIPTION: These videos are a series of studies of the transformation of type from 2D to 3D. They emphasize the melting process and our relationship with type, words, and foods. In these videos, we are watching in detail the melting process, something that we rarely see from beginning to end and usually try to avoid from happening to begin with. But as you are forced to sit and watch this lengthy process in detail from beginning to end, you pass the initial phase of pain from watching this disastrous event into enjoyment of witnessing these figures melt away. These videos are intended to create an experience for the viewer and to track the feelings of masochism vs. sadism. We develop a sick enjoyment when watching these words melt away into nothing, an unexpected feeling from just a video.

By making these melting words out of food that people find indulgent, it changes the meaning of the word for each person that reads the word melt away. Because these “fatty” foods have stigmas attached to them, it gives the melting words another layer into how they are read.
